We have ourselves experienced a disconnect between students in the African Diaspora & students in Africa. As young African Diaspora students, we have a lot to learn from our fellows in Africa. We also believe in African-led solutions to the equity, sustainability & development challenges facing Africa. But currently, there is a lack of communication between African students in Africa and students in the African Diaspora.

To address this disconnect, we propose a project that will operate as an adaptation of the pen pal concept. You will be paired with a buddy at an African University based off of the details you will provide during our Diversity Fest activity, such as interests, area of study & future aspirations in relation to addressing equity, sustainability & development in Africa. This will give you a great opportunity to be matched with someone who you can get along with really well!

We have already received much interest in this project from students & academics & have potential participation from students at University of Ibadan (Nigeria), University of Ghana & University of Makere (Uganda) 🌍✨

Our Diversity Fest activity will involve us writing a profile about ourselves & we will each be provided with the template to do this. We will then share our profiles with each other & use these later to match ourselves with buddies at an African University.

This is a simple activity but one that aims to connect you with a friend in Africa with whom you can contact at least once a month and exchange ideas, experiences & challenges. As African Diaspora students who aspire to see African-led solutions implemented in Africa, we need to establish genuine networks with African students.
