The International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) at WSU is hosting a meeting to promote the campaign of our parent organisation, the Socialist Equality Party (SEP), in the May 3 Australian federal election.
The meeting will be addressed by SEP candidates.
The SEP is the only party which is telling workers and youth the truth in this election campaign. No matter who comes into power, the incoming government will continue and deepen the bipartisan program of war and austerity, as well as attacks on basic democratic rights. The SEP’s campaign, and the IYSSE meeting, will advance the necessity of building an independent movement of the working class against all the capitalist parties based on a socialist, internationalist perspective.
This program is urgent if youth are to secure our right to a future.
Governments around the world are slashing social conditions while also supporting Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza and engaging in an eruption of militarism which threatens world war. This program is provoking mass hostility which governments are trying to suppress through increasingly dictatorial methods. Globally, students and others are being targeted for speaking out against genocide and war. Nowhere are the attacks on free speech more pronounced than in the US. Trump’s government of the oligarchy is attempting to establish fascist rule in the centre of world imperialism.
None of the major parties represent any opposition to this social and political collapse. Labor and the Liberal-National Coalition—both parties of war and big business—are competing to show that they are the party best positioned to work with the fascist Trump. The Greens are a capitalist party who, along with the fake left organisations, peddle the illusion that parliament—and the Labor party in particular—can be pressured to the left.
The IYSSE and SEP insist that the only way to end war, mass poverty and the reemergence of fascism is by overthrowing capitalism. This requires the building of a revolutionary party to unite the working class.
Join our meeting to find out more about this perspective and how you can assist the IYSSE and SEP fight for it in the election campaign and beyond.
