Volunteering at university can be a great way to meet new people and form new friendships. It also enriches social opportunities within your university community and allows for conversations where the voice of students are heard.

Stop by and visit one (or more!) of our stalls during National Volunteer Week! to learn more about the variety of volunteering opportunities available by chatting to some of the people involved with providing these opportunities, as well as with students who enjoy volunteering at Western so you can hear a bit about their perspectives and why they find volunteering at University worthwhile.

  • Tuesday 20 May, 12:00pm - 2:00pm
Parramatta South Campus:  thoroughfare of building EA

The Student Community at Western has a diverse variety of volunteering opportunities with additional opportunities still in development, and volunteering can be a fantastic way to gain access to additional training and/or experience, as well as network and build your personal brand.

MATES & English Conversation Groups (ECG) provides opportunities for experienced students to volunteer to support new and first year students while they first navigate the Western Sydney U environment, as well as students in all stages of study wishing to practice their conversational English and learn about Australian culture. Both of these volunteering roles provide a supported environment to build your communication and leadership skills and are a wonderful way to support your peers and make new friends at university - sometimes life long friends! Students can utilise their experience as a volunteer with MATES and ECG towards their civic engagement placement for the subject BEHV3026 Service Learning, as well as towards the Academy's Citizen Scholar program.
