A little about this mentor:

I have been a student at WSU since last millennia, with my first course beginning in 1999, allowing me to provide a well-rounded experience of the WSU experience. I have been an online student since 2021, making myself VERY well known to my OLAs! Outside of university, I am a passionate advocate for housing equality, working in social housing and homelessness for almost 20 years to date. An example of one of my roles was being the first Housing Navigator for an incredible program called the Kids Early Years Network (KEYS), where our multiagency team provided early intervention to families facing vulnerability in Western Sydney to prevent crisis before it occurred. It has been one of the highlights of my career thus far. This has allowed me to see just how many options there are around to connect people to when assistance is required.     Once I have completed my Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology and Criminology) I hope to commence a Masters of Planning (or maybe before, depends on how hyped up I feel when applying!) I have previously completed a Bachelor of Music, where I majored in performance (flute), composition, and musicology. I also have two children (15 and 11), two cats, one husband and far too much energy! I enjoy bike riding, craft, being in nature and helping people.

Parent or Carer: Yes, parent to two children with ADHD, 15 and 11. Very open to discuss how I balance study and parenting life in a household full of neurodiverse people.

A little about their culture: My family immigrated from England, Ireland, Germany and Scotland about 150-odd years ago. Nothing too groundbreaking there. As far as sexuality, I am a proud ally and am a proud member of the Department of Communities and Justice Pride Network. I do have a hidden disability, I have been recently diagnosed with ADHD and associated comorbid conditions. I am very open about this and if you have questions, I welcome them as I believe the way to destigmatise a condition is to speak about it and normalise it with correct information.

This mentor speaks the following languages: I have been learning Russian, German and French for 2430 day on Duolingo!

The mentor’s age is within the following range: 41 - 45

This mentor started university from: As a mature age student
