19 - 25 October, 2020 | Students & Staff Welcome to all events
Diversity Fest is a key event that celebrates our incredible diversity across many dimensions including culture, sex, gender, physical and mental abilities, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political beliefs, religious practices and socio-economic status.
Each year Diversity Fest events are held across the university and include live performances, artwork, panel discussions, stalls, film screenings and more.
This year we are doing things a little differently, with a group of students and staff working together to create an inclusive event online, featuring various awareness and celebration activities, spanning over seven days. We want to provide a place where we can come together and connect through diverse experiences, perspectives and discussion, especially during the current pandemic. Seven words were identified to help highlight the importance of Diversity in 2020 and each activity will be themed to one of these pillars. They are as follows:
- Freedom
- Resilience
- Communication
- Innovative
- Aspirations
- Awareness
- Togetherness

To fill the void of every in-person Oktoberfest that was cancelled this year, join our diversity fests online interpretation of the classic Oktoberfest.
Join to fulfil that urge to get dressed up in ridiculous cloths, socialise with your mates while meeting new ones, and enjoy your favourite drinks, or go experimental and try some random German beer you can't pronounce like "Schofferhofer." Bring your cultural cloths, any beverage, and most importantly: Have fun!
As it's an event with alcohol, it makes sense to well inform yourself on responsible drinking. So I have attached the Drinkwise link here as a point of reference. :)

Get Your Sketch On is a great way to kick off your evening!
We'll be discovering fun ways for you to embrace your inner Picasso.
Everyone will be encouraged to complete fun and creative exercises that will have you thinking, drawing, sketching and scribbling, all whilst you sip on your drink and snack of choice.
Each drawing task will be fun and quirky. This often results in amusing creations.
We will have you racing against the clock, drawing with your eyes closed, creating to music and oh, so much more. You'll be provided with a creative outlet and a "place" where you can unwind and self-express.
This class is always full of laughs. It's a time to have some fun, chat, breathe or maybe just sit back quietly and take it all in.
ANYTHING GOES!
Materials you will be required to have for the class: Sketch pad, pencils and any other mediums attendees would like to use such as coloured pencils, paints, chalks, texters etc. You will need one form of medium that adds colour.
In this session we will share and discuss how we approach the concept of resilience in critical, dynamic and different ways across the research centre, as demonstrated in three current research projects.
Followed by a panel discussion with the presenters.
Discussion around how Australian Universities might work to mitigate gendered impacts of COVID19 in conjunction with industry & communities.
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Hey everyone! We hope you are all doing well and apologise for our recent absence. Join Nap and the Bingobians for 3 fun rounds of bingo, with prizes to be won in every round!

Modern Ink will collect quotes from students answering, “what does diversity mean to you?’ (in 140 characters or less) - where students can submit answers based on the seven themes of this year's event. Modern Ink will display these quotes on a large word cloud. This will be a longitudinal process where each year, a word cloud of quotes will be developed, and over time, each year will represent what diversity further means to students. The posters developed will be able to be collectively displayed as a mural.
